Our church has food
His name is Braden and he is three, although he will tell you he is four or five. He knows that Eddie Massey has lots of tractors and he thinks that Santa (Ed Schweiger) sits across the aisle from us at church. He loves the trucks and cars in his Sunday School room and getting chocolate cereal from Joe Leischer’s breakfast buffet. On our way to church this week, he was sitting in my backseat looking out the window and pointing out all the pink trees (redbuds) on the way. He noticed a few other churches and then as we pull into the parking lot at our church he exclaimed- “Our church has food!” Little does he realize that his statement is so true! Not only does our church have food for his stomach, it has food for his soul. He doesn’t understand that yet, but his Sunday school teachers (Mrs. Woods and Mrs. Killough), his children sermon pastor (Rob Chambers), his children church teachers and all of you are teaching him. Thanks so much for welcoming, loving and teaching Braden so wonderfully.
I bring Braden to church for so many different reasons. One reason is because I want to give his mom some rest time as she is fighting breast cancer. She works full time and has completed 6 chemo treatments and now is in 45 days of radiation. Another reason is that I want to begin Braden’s faith journey with him. And yet another is that I miss my children’s childhood days and love to have an excuse to play outside in the creek and not do housework. So as I reflect on Sunday with Braden, I have to smile when I think about his view of church– “Our church has food!”
